Thrace, or Trakya,
is the European peninsula of Turkey. It has long been a crossroads for
many different cultures: Bulgaria, Greece, Bosnia, Albania, Romania,
Gypsy, and Mainland Turkey.
The region has a strong tradition of seasonal celebrations.
Its dances can be danced in circles and lines such as in Ali Paşa or
Nikriz Sitro, or less choreographed like in Karşılama. Dances move
intermittently between slow and fast rhythms.
